Hawker Siddeley Switchgear (HSS)
For over 5 years, Hawker Siddeley Switchgear (HSS) has relied on MCSA’s expert support of its legacy infrastructure. MCSA’s service was recently tested by a potentially damaging hardware issue – which it swiftly resolved – resulting in HSS experiencing minimal impact on its manufacturing and business operations.
With a 125 year heritage, Hawker Siddeley Switchgear has evolved into a major global player in the design and manufacture of indoor and outdoor switchgear – serving thousands of customers around the world. The company has supplied equipment for numerous, large-scale infrastructure projects that include; Channel Tunnel rail link, Metro-North Railroad and Dubai Metro program.
To ensure that its 200 user IT operations run smoothly across its Blackwood-based manufacturing site and technology centre in Loughborough, HSS employs MCSA – as its trusted support supplier. HSS have some legacy infrastructure and appreciate having a high quality, responsive, IT support partner is critical – so continuity of its operations is assured. For over 5 years, MCSA has delivered 24×7 hardware break fix support of HSS’ system environment. This infrastructure consists of legacy HP 9000 servers that underpin ERP systems running HSS’ entire sales & procurement activities. Also supported is the company’s virtual server infrastructure that drives its engineering, CAD, and other critical business systems.
MCSA’s service is delivered from its regional office near Bristol, by specifically assigned engineers, and being long-term employees – they provide the continuity that’s essential to fully understanding HSS’ IT environment. This insight proved crucial when a recent server outage, early on a Friday, meant HSS’ critical, ERP systems became inoperable.
On arrival, MCSA’s engineers identified the server fault and that a new SCSI RAID controller would address the problem. Even though it’s a relatively rare piece ofhardware, MCSA managed to source the part and delivered it to HSS’s site within 20 hours. With HSS IT based operations put on hold, MCSA’s engineers appreciated that services had to resume as quickly as possible, so worked on the Saturday to successfully bring the IT environment back into production. This prompt action resulted in only 2 hours of downtime being experienced by staff on the Friday – with no loss of data – and it was business as usual on the Monday.
Leighton Stacey, IT Manager at HSS said, “Our long-term relationship with MCSA is sustained because they consistently demonstrate a real understanding of our specific IT needs, including both old and new systems. MCSA’s staff are also passionate about their work and provide swift, intelligent resolutions to issues.”
Having expert support from MCSA, means that HSS’ operations are always available and smooth running – regardless of the age of the underlying infrastructure – so damaging operational downtime is minimised. As MCSA deal with the majority of HSS’ IT department’s supporting needs, this liberates their in-house IT team to focus on improving the company. Stacey added, “When I recently experienced a server crash – it could have been very stressful – especially as my internal ERP specialist was on holiday. Thankfully, MCSA ensured the problem was swiftly resolved – which was specially impressive as the replacement part is for legacy systems – so is difficult to source. I would fully recommend the MCSA team – you can totally rely on them – it’s so rare for an IT support company to go the extra mile like they did.”
