There is a growing concern across the UK that STEM skills aren’t developing fast enough to meet the increasing demands of our digital economy. Businesses are becoming more and more reliant on technology and data and support of these critical systems is crucial to keep individual companies and the economy as a whole flourishing for years and decades to come.
There is a significant shortage of skilled IT professionals within the industry to support UK businesses and with this comes the need for us all to play a part in addressing training and recruitment.
In direct response to this growing skills gap, this year we announced our pledge to increase our workforce by 25% over the next five years.
Our own fully accredited apprenticeship scheme was introduced in 2011, an initiative that has proved successful in recruiting and developing a new generation of IT professionals into our business. We envisage that over half of our new recruits in the upcoming years will be young talent ‘home grown’ within these programmes.
There is an industry-wide responsibility to attract more young people into IT and other STEM careers. At MCSA, we are committed to strengthening our relationships with local schools and colleges to promote career opportunities, and to nurturing our current apprentices and graduates to ensure they develop into valuable members of our team with rewarding careers ahead of them. As a nationwide company, our tailored training programmes and specialist career paths are an integral part of talent development across the UK – and we hope to see the wider IT industry playing its part in future-proofing the country’s workforce.
